About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kate, Right you are. A well prepared syllabus is the GPS for the course. Also, the syllabus lets everyone know when they have arrived at their destination. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Len, Good list of ways to set the stage for learning opportunities. This is what will engage students and get them focused on the value from what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joseph, Your last sentence really sets up the learning environment. Students need to see value and application to what is being taught and they need to be able to learn in a setting that is comfortable for them and relates to their chosen field of study. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, This is a great resource your school provides. This gives you time to focus on your interaction with students and to stamp your personality on the material you are presenting that day. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Well said. I have colleagues that do not prepare for their classes and just "wing it". They are so stressed that I can't believe they stay in teaching. I like to plan and prepare then go into the class knowing I am ready to teach. As a result I can focus on my students and really enjoy working with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alvin, It is great to have a professor in your background that can serve as an inspiring model for you. I know I had several that really impacted my style of teaching. Having such individuals really help us to refine our own style while showing us how we impact the lives of our own students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gilberto, Right you are about the need to stay current. Your field is changing so quickly that it is an ongoing process of introducing to your students the most current practices. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, Getting input from colleagues and feedback from students are two ways to refine your instructional delivery. You are doing both with your strategies. I know your professional growth is a result of your effort to internalize all of the information you can in relation to being an effective instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nazanin, This is a great strategy to receive and internalize feedback from students. This is what professional growth is about. By considering the input you receive you are expanding your expertise and refining your instructional delivery. Keep up your efforts in these areas because I know your students are growing and learning as a result of your professionalism. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, This is what refinement is all about. Keep up this effort as you continue to expand your expertise as an effective and efficient instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
