About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

William, Critical thinking and problem solving are essential for career success. You are providing opportunities for your students to gain experience in these two areas through your teaching strategy. This will serve them well when they are out in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chloe, Right on in terms of clear goals and objectives for the course and the understanding of the students. They need to see clearly where the course is going and what the expectations are. When they don't is when student management becomes a problem as you know. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, Sounds like a workable and comfortable style for your students to engage with. Also, sounds like you know yourself well in terms of how you come across to the students. Keep up the good work as an "edutainer". Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Valerie, Leave them wanting more is the mantra of a teacher. This will bring them back the next class and they will be excited about what they are going to learn. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robin, If the instructor doesn't care about the subject or the students then it is a tough sell for the students to buy into the course. You make a good point about enthusiasm and passion for content and students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephanie, Good strategy. Adults are just taller children so they like to be recognized and rewarded as well. Your methods gives them recognition that serves to motivate and encourage them to continue on their career path. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathy, Thank you for the kind words about the module and the use you will make from the content. Adult learners can be a valuable resource in the classroom if they feel they are able to contribute and are respected for what they know. Your idea of ongoing and frequent feedback is a good one and will help to engage and support your adult learners throughout the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terry Marie, Learners like variety and change of pace. The more you can integrate these two items into your instructional delivery the more successful you will be. You make a very good point concerning how this can be done. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eurico, Learning is a sequential process that requires that we keep the interest of the students through all of the class sessions. So we need to build excitement in our students as we close one class session and introduce the next one. Thanks for the good point on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cheryl, You raise a good point about balance. We instructors need to find that balance so we set the proper tone for the upcoming class sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
