About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

How can personal discipline help with critical thinking?
From your perspective what are the characteristics of a critical thinker?
What are some ways individuals can develop their critical thinking skills?
Laura, Your class sounds like a lot of fun with a lot of learning occurring. Your personality is a key asset in your success. You like what you are doing and bring passion to your field. The mac and cheese with Mornay sauce sounds wonderful. I am going to have to give that a try since I mostly each my mac and cheese out of the Kraft box. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Being a life long learner is one of the requirements of an instructor. Seeking new information, techniques and strategies should be a part of the professional development for each instructor. Staying current as you say also helps to motivate your teaching as you bring this new information into the classroom. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, So true and so important. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nazanin, Instructors need to strive to connect the dots between the classroom and the real world. The more examples the students get to see and learn about the more excited they will be about the content being shared. They start to see themselves in their chosen career area and this reinforces why they have chosen to prepare to enter it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nazanin, Good example of how to illustrate the value of the course content to the students. They are paying for a product and they need to see that they are getting a return on the money they have invested. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Good comments about the strategies that instructors need to employ to keep the students engaged. It is an ongoing effort that requires a lot of planning as you so well stated. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Judy, Engagement is essential in the learning process and you are doing such with your method. This keeps everyone focused on the content and how they are moving closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
