About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ralph, Good reminder for instructors, especially beginning instructors that may feel like you did. These comments will be of help to them as they plan how they will introduce themselves and their experiences to the students in the first class they teach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jamie, Having taught in such a setting myself I can appreciate how challenging it is for you and your students. In my situation they put three classes in one room. We each picked a corner and that was our "classroom". It was tough for everyone and as a result all of instructors left the school after our course session was completed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jamie, This is a great way to stay current as you mention plus you have great examples that are current to share with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mike, Students like variety and change of pace and one of the reasons for this is just what you mention, different learning preferences. So instructional planning needs to include such strategies for our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, Good point about enthusiasm and passion being important to the engagement of students. If we don't bring both it is for sure the students won't. They model what we promote so we need to bring excitement to the classroom and lab every time we teach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
