About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Nicole, I think your analysis is right on as both deliveries have merit depending on the student and the situation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kara, I think you are right. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathy, There are places for different types of instructional deliveries and students should be able to selection the one that best fits they learning preferences. I believe on ground and online instruction will part of the instructional delivery model for years to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elivett, This is an ongoing challenge for instructors. We are need to share our strategies with others and continue to seek best practices that will encourage more student participation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Virginia, Class size is a very much discussed topic due to all of the issues that have been raised by participants. They class size has to be maintained at a level where the students feel engaged and the instructor can interact sufficiently. If this is not the case the quality of the course is greatly reduced as we all know. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Great advice for all online instructor. Everything needs to be made as clear as is possible because there will always be questions by students. The more those questions can be reduced the more time can be spent in the learning arena. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Todd, Good strategy because student feedback is the essential if we instructors are going to continue our own professional development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Todd, One thing we know is that if we are not excited about our content it is for sure the students won't be. We need to bring passion and excitement about what we are teaching each time the class is held. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Todd, You are right about the need to provide opportunities for success early in the course for adult learners. With early success they start to build confidence that they in fact can pass the course and continue on their career path. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Teresa, You are most welcome. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
