About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

John, With there being so many different definitions of relaxation it is hard to settle on just what this means. Yes, the students need to be relaxed but also they need to be comfortable and feel accepted in the learning environment by the instructor and peers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, Well said. You have to stay current. What are some ways that you stay current in your field? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samantha, This is the human side of education and is very important. As we all know the majority of workplace conflict comes from interaction between other workers or the lack of self discipline. The more we can help our students along these lines the more valuable they will be upon graduation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, This is a great and ongoing resource that instructors should use. By sharing and exchanging information about different methods and strategies everyone has a chance to grow in their instructional expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, Good advice for instructors that want to expand critical thinking opportunities in their instruction. Using different learning formats, such as small groups and case studies help to provide different learning experiences for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, I like your statement about a friendly environment because many students miss this part. They have access to an expert in their field for the time they are in a course. As they work through problem solving and critical thinking their instructor can serve as their mentor and coach. This is very low risk compared to when they are out in the work world so they need to use the expertise of the instructor and expand their critical thinking abilities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donald, Yes, it is. The need to see the end result of what their efforts will get them. This helps to make their going to school more real. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donald, Great to hear that you are enjoying this new chapter in your career pathway. Teaching is a wonderful way to impact lives and leave a legacy. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicholas, This is a good point. We need to help the students connect the dots between course content and real world applications. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donald, Right you are. Your passion for your field helps to sell your course content to your students. This creates a great opportunity for maximum learning to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
