About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Terry Marie, I agree. I start with a three step model with all my new classes. First is courtesy. I will extend you courtesy while I do the second step is to earn your respect. To do so I will respect you and you respect me. Third I will strive to develop rapport with you so we can have a positive and supportive working relationship while you are in my class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terry Marie, This is a great idea and a good way to get all students involved. Thanks for sharing this with us. I know it will be of benefit to many other instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ana, If you are not excited about your field it is for sure the students won't be. Enthusiasm spreads so we need to bring it each time we teach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ana, It is always good for students to know their instructor once sat where they are now. We all got to be where we are by being students and struggling with going to school, families, and life just as they are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samantha, Games are big with most students. I use Family Feud and Jeopardy a lot during review time and the students really get into both. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, I like your approach from the beginning and the end. You tell them, teach them and then let them tell you what they have learned through the use of the check list. This shows them how much progress they have made during the class session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, I commend you for this effort. You need to be clear and concise in your sharing of information with your students. If you do such then their frustration levels will be reduced and their satisfaction will increase. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, Good point. They need to realize that they are preparing to enter a field that will reward them with money and career satisfaction. The more we can do this the more excited they will be about their classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, Checking for learning through questioning is a very valuable strategy to use as it not only helps the students but also lets the instructor know what needs to be reviewed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samantha, You have to set the bar for your students so they know what the are striving to achieve. Good point. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
