About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Christopher, I would create learning groups and have the previous students do presentations to the beginners on basic content. This way the previous students get a review as they prepare to share and the new students get to see how they will get to present when they have completed the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danielle, This is a great resource for your students because you are bringing to the classroom the latest examples and content being used in your field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dennis, This is a good practice to follow because this way you are adding to your expertise and knowledge. In addition you are seeing ways you can be an even more effective instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erica, I know you can because as a new instructor you already have this as a goal. You are in the right path to develop into an instructor of excellence. I wish you continued teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rina, You are right about the goal of being a student centered instructor does not change no matter the format. We need to remember this each time we interact with students either on the ground or online. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Troy, Your communication format is a good way to reduce wasted time and as you say get to heart of the question and get it answered for a student. As for the use of a grading rubric I cannot say enough about it. Using one save so much time and questioning on the part of students. I never grade without one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samuel, Immediate use of newly acquired knowledge in a personal way engages students. Your approach does just that. You are personalizing your content for the students so they can use it in their everyday lives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samuel, You have a very effective instructional strategy for reaching all of your students. The ABC format reaches out to the different preferences in terms of learning for the students and gives them varied ways to learn if they are willing to put forth the effort needed to be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samuel, I believe your analysis is dead on in terms of reasons why certain students do not find a fit in certain types of college settings. We need to relate to these students and get them to connect with us and then they will start to become engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ana, Well said. Rapport with students makes teaching so much easier and more fun because everyone is working on learning while enjoying a common goal which is the field that is being studied. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
