About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Laura, Well done! This is how teaching should be done because you are showing the students that they can accomplish the end task if they will listen, observe and sequence what they need to do. Reminds me of the age old question --How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time. This is how learning works best. Someone once said that learning is a lot like taking drink out of a fire hose and I believe it. This approach slows it down in manageable way for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samuel, Good analysis of how graphic organizers contribute to the learning process. They help students to see how the parts become the whole when fitted together in a learning sequence. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jackie, I commend you for your strategy of customizing a standardized course to meet the needs of your students. This greatly enhances learning and supports their career growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Yes, it does. They are able to absorb more content through their preferred learning preference format. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, This is a great strategy to use with students because real life has a way of pushing their ability to keep focused on school to the side. When outside influences and challenges become large students need to have support and encouragement so they will stay focused and not forget the reason they became students in the first place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Well said and a good reminder for us all. We cannot forget the human factor in relation to working with students and helping them to achieve success as they work toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amber, This is the human side of being a teacher and is an essential part of demonstrating a connection between the student and yourself. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, I agree with your assessment of instructional planning and the value associated with knowing enough about your students to be able to customize your instruction to meet their needs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Well said and a good reminder that we need to strive to help our students to feel comfortable and a part of our classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Steven, Feedback and support of this type really helps to increase the motivation level of students. They need to see that they can be successful if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
