About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mohammad, The more we can bring "real world" examples and situations into our classes the better prepared our students are going to be. You are doing such with Excel and the applications that can be made with it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Enthusiasm and passion are two components needed for successful teaching. We bring these two to class and we are going to have more student engagement than we though possible. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, Very good advice for instructors. We need to create the safe and fair environment for our students just as you have said. Without it we are going to lose even more students because they do not feel a part of the class or subject. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Good point and one I really support. We need to show our human side in terms of working with students. Knowing we care provides tremendous support to students that are struggling and are ready to drop out. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, I think this is a great way to wrap up a course. I imagine you get some great input into the "plays" as each student contributes his or her perspective. They will remember this activity for the remainder of their days. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Damian, Good observation because it is right on target. If we feel comfortable and confident our students will feel such. Our enthusiasm and passion for our content helps to "sell" it to our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Well said. Acceptance is critical if students are going to stay focused on the course and comfortable with the interaction in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Laura, Thank you for sharing your experience with the mini-lecture format. This is a very effective strategy to keep students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Steven, Learners like to have a change of pace in the delivery of content as well as variety in content. When both are offered then engagement is going to be enhanced. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Troy, Thank you for sharing your strategy for working with a challenging student. I know this information will be of help to other instructors when they face such situations and experience has taught me we all will. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
