I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Lisa, I like to use this learning strategy as well for the reasons you cite. They need to see how each part fits together to form the whole and once they do they start to see the interaction that each part has on the other components. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Corey, Thank you for sharing this strategy with us. By using this method you are constantly getting a read on your students and helping them to stay on the success trail. This is a great support to have available that contributes to the career goals of the students in a very clear way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Your last sentence says it all. You do have their attention with your working arrangement. You are bringing the latest technology, best practices and examples to class every night. This really makes it real for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, We all need to put ourselves in the shoes of our students at times. This way we can reinforce in our minds what they are going through and how they are reacting to our instructional effort. By doing this we will be able to adapt our instructional delivery if needed to better target the learning needs of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Scott, Great saying and one we need to remember each time we enter the classroom. We need to bring the human factor along with our technical expertise into our teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Scott, This is so important for student engagement. By being enthusiastic you can capture the attention of the students while in turn will assist them in learning the required content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, This is a good way to help set the students up for success because we know events will come into their lives that can take them away from school. By having a backup plan in place this will encourage them to stay in school and continue to work toward their goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jason, This is a very good way to provide additional support to students as needed. These connection points will valued by the students for the rest of their days. In addition, having a social event like a pot luck helps to divert for a little while some of the harsh realities of life and gives the students as well as their families a breather before they have to once again focus on survival. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, Glad the discussions were helpful to you. I wish you much success as a new instructor. You have a the opportunity to impact lives and shape futures. This is makes being an instructor a critical part of the career development of each student enrolled in your class. Keep that in mind and strive to expand and improve your instructional skills each time you teach and you will enjoy a rewarding teaching career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. Antonia, Good advise for all instructors. If we are not prepared and knowledgeable how can we expect our students to be. If we offer engaging and dynamic instruction then our students will look forward to our classes and be motivated to succeed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
