About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

April, I like both of these learning strategies because they reinforce what has been taught and they retention in their working memories is greater. Keep up the good work with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ricardo, Not sure I can really address this question because I haven't had it occur with my learning group format. As I have it set up every class member had an assigned role so he/she contributes to fulfill the part of the case study or problem solving situation we are working on. In introduce competition with some of the case studies and the students really like that and everyone joins in. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tonya, This is a major challenge for instructors. They need to "read" the current group of students and then adapt their instructional approach to gain the attention of the students and help them to acquire the required course content. I teach two sections of the same course back to back and each class is completely different. The good news is that I don't get bored teaching the same content since I have to make it different for each class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, I agree because it is your life and career experiences that go you in front of the students. Sharing so of that experience with them validates what you are offering a course of value. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ricardo, The first impression should be based upon what image you want the students to take away from the class about you and the course you teach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Great advice and a very clear message. We are always on stage no matter where we are in the school or clinical setting where we are supervising. So be the model that you need to be throughout your time in the educational or practicum setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, This ability needs to be reinforced throughout their training if they are to be successful in their careers. If the students don't know how to adapt and be flexible they aren't going to see growth in their career opportunities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Hans, For sure and I have set through many of them over the years. We need to strive for engagement through our content, examples and activities. When we do that then we will have some excited learners. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ricardo, Students need to see the value of the course content through connections to their career. By having your goals and objectives tied to application and relevancy this makes the course outcomes much clearer. Good point you made in relation to how we need to construct our goals and objectives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Teresa, So true. If you bring passion for your content and excitement about sharing it you have set the stage for engaged learning to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
