About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Christopher, These are good questions to ask and discuss. The answers give you are real clear picture of who you have in class and why they are there. In addition, during the discussions you get to know your students much better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tripp, I think they do as well so I use them whenever I can to reinforce a point or get students engaged in a discussion. Every session I have students with amazing background stories and experiences that help to illustrate our course content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christopher, Repetition and reinforcement are two key elements of learning. By the end of the course the students will have the key concepts buried in their working memories. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kenisha, Well defined and well said. This is a critical part of being an instructor as well as one of the fun parts. I greatly enjoy my students and the interaction I have with them. It is fun for me to help them move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tim, This is such a great support service your school is providing. It is easy for an adult student with life challenges to start to feeling alone and not able to cope with life nor school. It is at this point we start to lose them. So the more they can interact with others that are facing life challenges the more they can see that they in fact can cope and be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Blanca, You make a very good point about students thinking they are the first individuals on earth who have been students and experienced life issues like they are. In fact most of us have been where they are and we do understand what they are facing. When they know that they start to respect us for how we are supporting them and how we can help them be successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christopher, Good way to build confidence and show them how much they actually know. This is a good reinforcement tool. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, This is the value of student feedback. Each time you teach a course you gain additional insight on how to improve your delivery as a result of what the students share with you. Feedback is a real growth opportunity. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, I use them as well for the reasons you state. Students like to hear stories from the field. These stories help them to see how they will fit into the career field they have chosen and how they can be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dinel, How do you check for understanding with your students after you have reviewed your expectations? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
