About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Octave, Student feedback is one of the most important ways we can improve our course delivery. The feedback helps us to improve and expand our course efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doris, That is correct, no one wins when the instructor does not have passion for the content being shared nor enthusiasm about sharing it. We need to bring our A game to class each time it meets. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Right you are. This is why I introduce new content or a new activity into my courses each time I teach them. This way I am excited about the new material and the repeated material is not boring. My enthusiasm remains high and I have student engagement going on in my classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chloe, I agree about listening. When you are listening you are learning. When students know they have an instructor that listens they are much more engaged in the course and the effort to be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bridget, I think it is good to do just that every once in a while. By putting yourself in their situation you can see how you can better assist them in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, I agree. You have the best of both worlds. You get to work in an area you love helping the next generation to enter your career area and you get paid for doing it. This is a win win situation for sure. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, If you aren't excited about teaching it is for sure the students won't be excited about learning. You make a good point about why we need to be enthusiastic about sharing our content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tim, Good point about the value of interaction with an instructor. Students build on these interactions and develop rapport with the instructor to the point that they strive to be successful because they want the instructor to be proud of them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Octave, I agree with you about the need to create an "I can" attitude in the minds of students. They need to be invested in themselves and their future. If they are and are willing to put forth the effort they will be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jerry, Learning is a personal thing and students need to see that it is up to them to learn. We can help and support them but we cannot learn for them. They need to have buy in if they are going to benefit from being in school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
