About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Toni, This is how the majority of students become engaged. They like to hear and then apply their newly acquired knowledge. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathy, Your class sounds like fun even though you are teaching some very technical content. The more you can illustrate the content and your example is a great illustration the more engagement there will be. I know your students will remember your lessons so keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, Respect is the foundation for rapport and students need to develop rapport with their instructor. Good point about how to start the development of respect. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rhonda, Right you are and it needs to be a positive and well planned one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brent, I like this approach because you are letting them use their newly acquired professional knowledge to select articles and learn more about the field. This gets them to start looking around for applications of their field in different settings. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rodriegus, You are helping to connect the dots between course content and application. This is a critical part of learning for students and the opportunities you can provide them to do such the greater their knowledge and expertise is going to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, I like the way you provide them opportunities to get involved right from the beginning of the course. I think this is very important to student engagement. Having a fun ice breaker introduction session and then some samples of what is to come really sets the stage for a positive learning environment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brent, This approach holds students accountable for their future. As adults they have chosen to be in school and they need to see that it is up to them to be success. You will help, instruct and support them but they must put forth the effort to be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Toni, This is so important because they need to see what their future will look like in their field. The more experience they can gain in the classroom or lab the easier their transition will be into their career area. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rodriegus, Good point. A positive first impression helps students get settled into the course and get a feeling about how the course will operate and they fit within the course. Then it is a building process from there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
