About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

John, You make a very good point about not letting a student disrupt the learning of others. No one has that right so we need to manage such students by helping them be successful in our classes even if they are enrolled for the wrong reason. I like to challenge myself to see if I can win them over. On the other hand I will remove a disruptive student from class so I can continue to help the students that want to be there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Right you are about how goals and objectives should be structured and shared with students. This helps them to see the end results from the first day. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, What are some ways you help your students to set goals of excellence in your class? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gina, Using this approach you will have success with your students. By using examples from your field you are showing both application and relevance to the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joshua, Good way to look how you are going to expand your instructional expertise. This is what instructional expertise should be about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Time your content to specific examples and case studies. The more you tie your content to the real work the more motivated they become. Also, give examples of income that can be earned in the field. Dollars make a lot of sense to these students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, The more real world examples they can have shared with them the better. They need to realize that what you are teaching them is based upon industry standards and years of experience. You are not just making things up to teach them but all content is factual and needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bradford, Like your sequential approach. As a former construction person myself I appreciate how important a solid foundation is to learning as well as for a structure. You are giving them both theory as well as application in this format. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeremy, You have a good approach going with your students. By raising scenarios and asking them for their input you are helping them to develop their own ethical approach to their field. By "own ethical approach" I meant in concert with the ethics of the field and their own internal understanding of how they must conduct themselves as professionals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Good outline of your professional development plan. I know it will serve you well as you expand your instructional expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
