About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Erica, Students need to have multiple sources of content input available to them and you are providing such through all the different venues you are using. These all serve as re-enforcers to the students as they move about the classroom and lab. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, This is a great way to keep your students engaged in their own career progress. You are reminding them that they are making progress toward their future as a result of the different reminders of the expectations they have written down. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, Your last sentence says it all. The majority of us spend our professional lives problem solving and to be successful we need to be able to think critically about options and solutions. If we are successful then our careers will develop. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Liza, So true about how students like to hear stories from the field. With your experience you have stories you will be able to share for a long time to come. The stories help to make the content real to them as well as giving them a peek into the future career area for which they are training. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Patricia, Trust is such a powerful part of teaching. When trust is two way then respect and rapport develops as well. This sets the stage for successful student engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Liza, Good point about helping students to see that you understand where they are coming from and that you are there to help them be successful if they will put forth the effort needed. This can be a win win for them if they want success bad enough. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, Right you are about the human factor. It is a critical part of what we offer as instructors. We need to respect our students and in return earn their respect. As a result then rapport can be established and retention will be enhanced. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rick, This is a great way to get students interacting with each other plus learning what each class member has to contribute to the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aldorey, Good warm up for the beginning of class. You are helping them to get settled into the course and ready for the learning that is going to occur plus you can relate your content to the life experiences they have had. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
