About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Edward, Seeing the whole as well as understanding the parts is an essential element in your field. You are helping your students to see both as they develop their knowledge and skills in ways to break down an animal into the parts that they will be using in their dish preparation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Deb, The more you can do this the more value the students will see in your content. Math as you well know can be a challenge for many students so the more relevancy and application you can provide the more ROI they will see in their study efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Edward, You make a very good point about the students being there by choice. They have chosen to enroll college and have selected a program of study for themselves. As a result we should not have to worry about attendance, effort or student success but we do. I am amazed that I have to encourage students to attend class, be on time, complete homework and meet project deadlines. Many of them miss the fact it is their future at stake so they need to be successful in order to able to enter into and growth in their chosen career area.… >>>

David, Good for you. Students like variety and change of pace in instructional delivery and you are offering both with your approach. I know your students appreciate your planning efforts as you share your content with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joseph, Interaction between students and the instructor through discussions, Q&As, and case studies are ways to promote the use of newly shared content. Your instructional style enables the students to be comfortable in the class while contributing their perspectives. Good strategy to follow, keep up the good effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ward, What are some ways you do this? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edward, I like the way you are appealing to the different learning preferences and strengths of your students. This way they can find success in different sections of the course while still moving forward toward their career goal. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edward, You make a very good point about the need for students to select key concepts or content for retention. They need to develop study skills that will help them to pull out the essential content and store it in their working memories. This way they can retrieve the information as needed when they are making application of the concepts they have learned. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Instructors need to "read" their classes and by doing so will know how to adapt their instructional delivery to engage the students in the learning process. Your point is a good one concerning how you deliver your content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Diana, Good observation. Yes, they do appreciate your preparation efforts in helping them learning the content needed as well as helping them to make applications in their career area. The more we can do this the easier the transition will be for our students from the classroom/lab to the work world. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
