About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Tricia, This is what learning should be about. Goo point. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, Good example of customizing and targeting instructional delivery. You adapt as needed to the current students while continuing to offer the essential content and moving their learning forward. This is a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, Good point and is of great value to the instructor. The more we know about our students the more accurately we can plan our instructional efforts to meet their needs. This then becomes a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Estella, I agree and this is why it is so important to get the class comfortable with each other and settled in during the first class session. Then you can build on this comfort throughout the course duration. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patti, I'm a big fan of using humor as a teaching tool. My content area is very serious as well so without humor I think all of us, both my students and myself would wear down and become overwhelmed by the content. With humor we can have fun share a laugh and still learn what is needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Claire, Good way to get student interaction going and increasing the participation of everyone. This is so important so the students will see the value of what you are teaching and how they can transfer their newly acquired knowledge and skills to their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Claire, Right you are about the value of having a well developed syllabus. A good syllabus will reduce student questions and frustrations because of the information shared in it. This sets the stage for students looking forward to the coming class sessions because they know what the course expectations are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jan, This is a good way to approach your students. You are guiding their learning but you are helping them to stay engaged by offering them options that they can explore for how they will learn the material. This encourages them to make an investment in themselves and their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, My students love to play games in my classes as well. I have found just as you have that interactive learning is a good motivator. In addition, my students get very competitive so they learn even more when we are playing Jeopardy for the grand prize of candy kisses. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tricia, This is a good scaffolding technique to use because it builds on each class session and sets the stage for learning opportunities for that class session. This really helps the students to connect the dots in terms of what is being taught in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
