These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Charles, We need to bring passion for our field and enthusiasm for teaching it to our classes each time they meet. You are right, if we don't seem to care it is for sure our students won't either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Freda, You make a good point because students do talk as you mention so they have an idea of what your course and you are like before coming in. As you suggest the key is to be prepared and ready to teach so your reputation is set as being professional, caring, competent and prepared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, So true. They know you care enough about them to set a standard for yourself and them in relation to the course. Your effort of being well dressed and prepared says to them that you are there to help them achieve their career goals if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Thank you for the kind words about this course. So pleased that it has been of help to you. I am excited for you as you approach your second term. Each term you teach will get better and offer more rewards because your confidence is growing along with your expertise. This is what makes teaching so much fun and rewarding. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Yes, they do. What are some strategies that you use to help them get relaxed and settled into your class? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, As you know students really like hearing about real world situations and examples. By doing so you are showing the value of the content you are sharing and this increases the ROI for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Good professional development plan. By working through these different areas you are going to expand your expertise and increase your effectiveness as an instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tena, Well said. The first impression that students have of an instructor set the tone for the class to come. By making it a positive one then a foundation has been laid for a productive learning process to start. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tena, So true and so important. If they are distracted by the learning environment they will not be engaged and focused on what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Hugo, What are some effective ways you have found to help your students to see and understand the course goals? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
