About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kathleen, I support your efforts to make the material come alive. Some of my greatest memories as a student are based upon professors that made their subject area come alive. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christopher, I agree and think this is a way for them to start thinking about their futures in realistic terms because this field is tough to break into and they need to realize that. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Good way to walk students through the ROI of the course. Each step reinforces how they can be successful and what success in the course means to their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Martha, This is necessary because students have a tendency not to listen and then say they were never told about projects, timelines, assessments, etc.. We need to be clear and concise in our explanation of our course requirements. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
China, You make a key point about helping students to know they have made the right career choice as a result of how you set up the class. It is a building process from there on. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
GERAR, Good plan that helps to get everyone on the same page. Helps to achieve the objectives for that class session with this type of opening. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathleen, Good point about the impression instructors make and how we perceive the class going as the result of those perceptions. I know I have had a number of professors that did not seem to care about being prepared for the first class session and as a result I have negative feelings toward the class. Some of the professors changed my perceptions later on in the course and others reinforced the fact that they really didn't care about teaching or us as students. Sad situation for sure. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Luanna, Good points for how to start a new class. These preparations set the stage for a positive and engaging class to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Reinaldo, Good way to reinforce what has been taught and set the stage for what is going to be taught. This way the students see the connection between classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
China, Good definition of what a professional educator should be like. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
