About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kay, I agree and have seen it in operation. When mutual respect exists then a foundation has been laid for learning and growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pixie, I agree. Respect and rapport are two very valuable components of successful teaching. They serve as a foundation from which we can operate for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Annette, This human factor of sharing that we are all in this together is very important in keeping students in class and focused on success. We are all former students ourselves and sometimes our students need to be reminded of that. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathleen, We have to be the model for learning and when we aren't then students will start to withdraw. You make a very good point about how important the human factor is on retention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kay, You have to "sell" your field and your content to your students. You are doing such with your approach and as a result you have students that respect you for your effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pixie, Thank you for the example you mention because it reinforces why we need to bring passion and enthusiasm to the classroom. If we are not excited about being there it is for sure the students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Luanna, Passion and enthusiasm are essential if we are going to be able to engage our students for the duration of our class. They need to be shown how much we care about our field and their success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Annette, The more connections of this type you can make the stronger engaged students will be because they can see the relevancy and application of what your are offering them in the course. This becomes a motivator for them as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Teresita, You have a very comprehensive approach to your instructional planning. This is how you need to develop your content because you will be able to meet the needs of your students in a targeted manner. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, What are some examples of professional seminars you would like to attend. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
