About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Steven, This is such an important point for instructors to get across to their students. Students need to see the outcomes of the course in relation to their personal goals and career plans. When they do their motivation increases. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, You used my favorite words when it comes to teaching. If we have passion about our field and are enthusiastic about teaching it while showing the relevance of why they are learning it you have a winning formula for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nelson, Good point. We instructors need to bring passion for our field and enthusiasm for teaching about it. These two elements need to be present in each class we teach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janice, The more we know about our students and they about us the more common ground we can find in relation to the course content. In addition, knowing more about each other helps to set the stage for the development of respect and rapport. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janice, Well said and such a critical part of the career development process for students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danny, Thank you for sharing this strategy with us. All of us instructors can use all of the methods we can to remember so many names in so many different settings. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stacy, The value of listening is tremendous. You are showing respect to your students by listening to them and then making adjustments if possible. If not possible they will respect the fact you listened to them. This becomes a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danny, Good way to increase the value of the content in relation to student perception. The more they can integrate the information into their minds and see application the more relevancy they see to what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariesol, This method really increase the content retention for students since they are in fact learning the content twice. Once, as a student and again as the teacher when they explain the topic to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariesol, I agree. Knowing that an authority figure in this case their learning leader cares about them individually is so important to their getting settled into the class and feeling like they can be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
