About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Harpreet, Well said. I think many of us has had such instructors and going to class was painful. If we have passion for our field and are excited about sharing our content then we have set the stage for successful learning to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ann, Glad to hear about this instructor. These are fun instructors to be around and you know that this person really cares about her students and their success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gordon, Yes, they do and as a result they need to have our understanding about how they are approaching the classroom. Knowing this we can target our instruction more accurately and offer instruction in different ways to support their learning preferences. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, Change of pace and variety helps to engage learners and you are doing that by getting them up and moving around plus concentrating on the review of material just covered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Tie their assignments directly into their fields. This will show them application of writing in a direct and realistic way. In addition, I use some activities that my students like such as having them write one minute papers on something we are studying. The time limit gets them to focus their thoughts and lets them express themselves but doesn't overwhelm them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terry, This is a great way to gain additional strategies for instruction as well as developing a relationship with colleagues upon whom can be called when situations arise that needs additional input in areas such as student behavior management. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Harpreet, You make a number of very good points about how to help students to feel a part of the class. In addition, knowing more about students helps with customizing the approach that will work best with the currently enrolled students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
SHIVA, I agree and when students feel they are not being treated professionally they will not respect the instructor nor work to establish rapport with him or her. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Harpreet, This is a blend of the professional educator and a human facilitator which leads to students interaction and respect. This is what makes teaching as well as learning fun. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shawntel, Great to hear that the material helped you with your syllabus preparation. I wish you success as you finalize the completion of a clear and concise syllabus. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
