About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kaley, I like the way you have laid out how to stay fresh in your content and delivery. This is so important because even though we have been through it many times it is the first time for that group of students so we need to demonstrate to them how much we value the content we are sharing and the excitement we have for teaching it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonya, I like this approach as well because as you say a shared laugh and a lite moment helps to set the tone for the upcoming class session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ramon, I think is a good strategy to follow because you will be able to relate more to each student as a result of knowing how much they really know and can do in relation to the lab requirements. Your knowledge of their developing competencies will help you to provide support as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Frank, I agree. The more application that can be made of the content the more relevancy the students will see in the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonya, This is a great way to demonstrate your support to and for such students. They see you believe in them and that you want to help them succeed if they will put forth the effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, I use pairing a lot in my classes for the reasons you list. The results are respect students develop for each other and the growth that each person has during the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donald, Good way to start discussions and get student input. I am sure some students will be excited about learning more about your own use of math via the many applications of it you have made in your career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Russell, Right you are about the instructor needing to be excited about his or her subject. We cannot sell learning to our students if we are not excited about the content we are offering. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, You make a very good point on this topic. Some factors are constant just as you say about dealing with life and death. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kerry, This is such an important part of teaching. Students need reinforcement but it needs to be done in a way that enables them to value the reinforcement and grow from it. It is fun to see the growth of students when provided with this type of learning atmosphere. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
