About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Tara, This is a great way to get everyone involved because as you say everyone has experiences upon which they can call if given the opportunity. The resulting sharing of these experiences reinforces the motivation of the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tara, This is a very good way to keep the content current while showing the value of the content that is in the textbook. You can feel confident this way that your students are receiving the essential information they will need in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tara, Students as you know really perk up when their instructor shares a story from the field. These stories reinforce the value of the content being shared resulting in greater student satisfaction with the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tara, Yes, you can and the result will be enhanced student learning and a higher rate of student retention. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ryan, This is the human factor of teaching and it is as important as the technical content that is shared. The students need to know you care about them as human beings and what to help them to be successful. In return you want from them effort and energy. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Falisia, I like to use them as well for the reasons you state. They help to engage the students and get them to thinking about how they can have a successful future if they are willing to invest in the effort needed to acquire the knowledge and skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonia, This is so important to set the tone for the class that meeting. An "attention grabber" helps to see the content that is going to offered in the upcoming session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lauren, It is fun when you can help them to see themselves in their career and focus them on their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Venkateswaran, I agree because when multiple sections of a course are offered there needs to be consistency between and among the instructors. A well prepared syllabus gives that consistency. Then the individual instructor can personalize the course to match his/her instructional style and the meet the needs of the current group of students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, You have some great resources upon which to call. Experienced instructors can be a wealth of information on how to approach a situation or plan for a presentation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
