About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Irina, Repetition is an important teaching tool. As instructors we need to come up with creative ways that we can repeat the content with our students and keep them engaged during the process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eric, Your analysis of the learning preferences and intelligences of your students is right on. Individual with certain types of intelligence move toward and enter certain types of careers. By knowing this you can do as you are doing and incorporating a lot of demonstrations and applications into your lectures. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erin, All of the motivation variables have a part in the success of students. The more we can learn about the students the more accurately we are able to zero in on the motivation that will work best in a specific situation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Freda, You have a very supportive and comfortable approach to your classroom and this is what students desire to have. Keep up the effort you are putting forth to connect with each of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrew, "Ah ha" moments are what most of us teachers live for. They are motivating not only for the students but for us as well because we get to share the moment of enlightenment with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Freda, Good tip. Looking away sends a very clear message to that overtalkative student for sure. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Erin, Student feedback is so important for the reason you state. We need to get it from out students and then reflect on how their comments can help us shape the course the next time we teach it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrew, Right you are and thank you for this important reminder. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeffrey, So true about the need to REFOCUS at times. You make a good point about student relationships when you have them in back to back classes. I teach two three hour courses and many of the students are in both classes. I have to work hard to keep them engaged and make sure I am sharing new information with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Freda, Students love hearing career stories. I know you have noticed how they perk up when you share a story, example or illustration using your career experiences. These stories increase the value of the content you are presenting to the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
