About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Lisa, Yes, it is. It sets the stage for the upcoming class and how the students see themselves fitting into the class. This forms the foundation for the development of respect for both the instructor and the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Right you are. At this level being in school is a serious matter that takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money. The students need to know that their instructor is serious about their education and they need to be as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, You are doing a great service for your students. By them knowing what the real world is like and being evaluated with real world standards their transition to the work will be much easier. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jacki, The more you can connect course content to real life the greater value they will associate with the course. They really like examples and stories about the field as it relates to the topics being studied. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Yes it is important. Everyone needs to know what the expectations are and what will occur to get to the end goals. This sets the stage for understanding. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Like the way you lay out your expectations and then review them with your students. This gets everyone on the same page from the beginning. Even with this information sharing it seems that we still have to repeat ourselves numerous times throughout the course because students have very short memories it seems. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nichelle, The use of current materials is a real service to the students. This shows that you are staying current with your field and that they are getting the latest information. This is a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Matthew, So true. Passion for the content and enthusiasm for teaching it sets the tone for a positive class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, You are displaying and modeling the behavior and soft skills needed for career success. You are doing a great service for your students as they get to see how a professional in their field should conduct themselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kevin, This is a case where skill and expertise served you well. They respected you for your expertise and didn't worry about your age. Thanks for sharing this example with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
