About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mary, Good strategy to follow and as a result your expertise expands and effectiveness increases. This is a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, Yes, it is so the more hands on experiences they can get the better prepared and easier the transition to the workplace it will be for them. They will have both the technical as well as cognitive skills needed for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Naimah, Thank you for these wonderful comments. Glad to see that the course is helping you to expand your instructional knowledge and expertise. I wish you much success as you get the opportunity to prepare and shape the careers of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eric, Good strategy. Much like a buffet line, pick and chose what you liked and what impacted you and then make those characteristics a part of your own teaching style. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, You are using a very effective way of connecting with your students. You have set where they are sitting so they know you know what it is like to work full time and try to be successful as a student. This earns their respect and forms the foundation for the development of rapport. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
LaToya, Right you are about need to know and understand the basics of learning. By knowing the basics we will be able to customize our instruction more accurately to meet the needs of our current students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erica, Good point about pacing. Yes, it is easy to get too fast in our delivery since we know the material so well. This is why we need to slow down and occasionally stop to reflect on how effective we are in our instructional delivery and then make any adjustments we need to so we have engaged students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, You make an interesting observation about the LaLa Land students. I have experienced them many times over the years. One thing I know after many years of teaching is that I am continually amazed at human beings and their behavior. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, I think this is so important for students. They need to see that they are accepted into the course and will be treated fairly and consistently by the instructor. Knowing this lets them focus on the course and not to worry about the dynamics of acceptance. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, Good point about the need to "read" your students and then adjust your instructional delivery to keep them engaged. Each class is different and as a result we need to be creative as we introduce our content to the current student population. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
