About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Rosa, This approach enables the student to connect with the content in a personal way. This is a good strategy to follow as it engages the students as well as helps them to make application of the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jay, The key is making the course valuable to the students. This is why they need to understand how the content of the course will help them to move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, Students like variety and change of pace in their learning. The more we can do this the more engaged our students will be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, This is why it is so important to make sure the first class meeting is a good one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, I would try and develop an activity that gets the students using some of the contents of the new course at the first meeting. I would use a role play, case study approach so even though they may be in their fourth class they see that there is something new to learn. As you know it is easy for them to think they know it all after being together for three courses and are a cohort group. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, A well prepared syllabus can save a lot of time for the instructor as well as frustration on the part of the students. The contents of the syllabus lists the expectations and helps the students see how they fit into the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, The use of two instructors in a classroom has some real benefits as you mention. Not only can they learn from each other but there are two perspectives and experiences from which the students can learn about the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, The key is to have a plan for professional development and this way you will keep expanding your expertise and knowledge about how to be an effective educator. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Teresa, Good way to keep the confidence level up on your students while they are working through nerves and inexperience. The more times they work through these situations the easier it is going to get for them to come up with the right solutions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eduardo, Yes, the more situations they have been exposed to and heard solutions to the more experience they will have as they face real world experience after completing school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
