About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ann, Good point and one that we need to keep in the front of our minds at all times. We need to model the professionalism of both our career and of teaching. This sets the example our students need as they mature in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Machuria, Good way to establish a foundation of respect and as you mention rapport with your students. From then on you can expand the relationship and provide support to each student in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, How do you set up your learning environment for maximum learning success? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, This is a fun and informative way to give value to what you are teaching. The more skills students can develop in critical thinking and problem solving the more valuable they will be in the work place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elly, You are increasing the value of your course by taking your students to the dental office. They are seeing how the tools and procedures are relevant to their career field and why they need to know how to use and apply the tools and procedures. This is what helps to ramp up their excitement about what they are studying. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ann, Consistency and fairness are two elements needed for teaching success. Finding how to balance these two can be a challenge for an instructor at times. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kanika, Students really perk up when their instructors share stories and examples from the field. You are telling them how it really is out in the work world through your examples. Keep up the good job you are doing through your sharing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elly, Small enrollments in classes can be tough because you don't get the interaction nor discussion as you would from larger classes. You are doing a good job of getting everyone to contribute while you are keeping them engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Machuria, You have their respect because you are earning it through your interaction with them. Your use of real world examples help them to see the future they can have if they are willing to overcome the barriers in their lives and expend the effort needed to be successful in their courses. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, How do you use this feedback in relation to course improvement? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
