About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Christy, I agree. The more interaction the greater the retention of the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, You make a good point. The more we know about ourselves the more we are going to be able to understand others in relation to their preferences and successes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, Your last sentence really captures the essence of why we do what we do. We need to help our students to see the value of what we are teaching and how it will impact their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, Some instructors don't share clear and concise information with their students and then wonder why the students are frustrated and confused about the what the expectations are. As you say clear and concise information about the course sets the tone for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, Good plan and one that I am sure helps the students to get settled in and ready for the upcoming class sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, I like the comprehensive approach you take to getting your students ready for the up coming course sessions. By them knowing what the expectations are and how they can be successful in the course they can get settled in and focus on the content being shared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christy, This is what "owning" the class should be about. You are engaging your students from all different positions and with the hands on activities you are getting them engaged. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, Introductions are the foundation upon which the rest of the course is going to build. So we need to plan our introductions so they are fun and informative for our students and set the tone for the upcoming classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christy, It is the road map or GPS for the course. A well prepared syllabus also reduces student questions and frustrations because the information is there for them to review as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, This is a a very important part of the teaching process. The more you can set your classroom or lab up to reflect the career field in which the students will be working the easier the transition for the students when they complete their program. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
