These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Melissa, Your last sentence says it all. You have to bring passion and enthusiasm to the class because if you don't it is for sure the students aren't going to generate it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, I call this connecting the dots. The more they can see value to what they are learning now in relation to value to their career the higher the ROI is going to be for them. We need to help them see their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dorothea, Positive builds on positive and negative explodes. It is so much easier to build on the positive rather than digging out of a negative hole for the entire couse. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Becky, So true and so important to setting the tone for the class and how the class is going to proceed from the first meeting forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, I always the start of a new class because I get to walk through some of the items you list. Doing introductions and ice breakers let us get to share some laughs, have some fun and get to know each other a bit. Then we are ready to start the building process for the next phase of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, This is true so instructors need to "read" the learning environment in relation to what activities are going to be used and the learning structure that is required. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, I commend you for the way you encourage interaction and discussion while establish an environment of listening. Students need to develop skills at listening because no matter the career field there will be times one needs to listen and respect the opinions of others. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carolyn, They have to be able to see themselves in the work place. If they can't their transition to work is going to be challenging. They need also to see relevancy in the content and how it can be applied. Class activities should help this process to become second nature to them while in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristina, This is an important part of the instructional process. We need to be able to keep our students forward focused and see the relevancy of what is being taught. This is the only way they are going to stay engaged for the duration of their time in school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristina, Respect and rapport are two essential elements of teaching success. Once respect has been earned then rapport can be developed and this is when learning really takes off. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
