I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Discussion Comment
Kanidrus, This is a way we can improve. The more feedback we have the more knowledge we have about how to adjust our instructional delivery and assignments if needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, This is an essential part of being an educator. If you are not perceived as being approachable your students will not have the level of respect or rapport with you that is beneficial for a positive learning environment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dario, Having the steps in mind gives structure to the process. Without structure there will be a lot of wasted time and effort which benefits no none. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dario, Thank you for the comment about limitations. We do need to understand them within ourselves and how those limitations impact how we will approach our work. This way we can focus on our strengths and provide the best patient care possible. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dario, Glad to hear the information has been of help to you in your professional development. Individuals that can think critically and problem solve are going to be valuable in the workplace. By helping your students to understand how valued they will be with this skill set you are helping to open up many opportunities for them to explore as they get ready to go into the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, This is so important for students to have in their minds and a part of their learning strategy. They need to see how this course and the content that is being offered is going to help them move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Good point. What are some way that you do this with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, Yes, lab courses are easier in this area as you mention. Students are developing skill sets and making application of the content so they get really excited about what they are doing, even though sometimes their initial efforts may not be the best. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, Right you are about needing to be an example for the students. Instructors need to have passion for their field and then bring enthusiasm to the class each time it meets. If we are not excited it is for sure the students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
