About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kelvin, I think you will like the results you get from these activities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, Welcome to teaching. Your approach to your first class is a good one. With passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching about it you are setting a very professional tone in your class. I wish you much success with your students because with 20 years of experience you are a storehouse of knowledge that needs to be shared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shannon, This is a good way to personalize the content for the students. You are helping to get their goals and the course content together for them in their minds. This increases the value of the course as a result. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Martha, As has been mentioned learning is often much like taking a drink out of a fire hose. So if we can break up the content flow in a way that enables the students to see both application and relevancy in the content then value is associated with the course. The projects you had them do did just that. In addition you gave them something to store in their long term memory that they can use in their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Autumn, Passion for our field and enthusiasm for teaching our content are two components needed for instructional and student success. Your comments give a good picture of how and why this needs to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
N. Dianne, This is one of the things I like about being a teacher. I get to learn and improve throughout my career. I know other careers do this as well but teaching is one requires it of us if we are going to be the professionals we need to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, We must model what we expect of our students. We are setting the standard for our field and demonstrate that to our students in everything we do. You are setting the bar that you want your students to observe and work toward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, I think you will like the results you get when you have your students use graphic organizers. They help them to see the parts of a topic in relation to the total outcome picture. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, Relevancy and application are two elements sought by learners, especially adult learners. They want to see the ROI for the time and money they are investing. The more instructors can do this through their activities and content the more engaged the students will be. You use of the flowchart is a good way to help them see the relevancy of the content and keep them focused on the sequence of the content. You are providing a valuable resource to your students with the flowchart. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Butch, What are some ways you will be adapting your pedagogy as a result of acquiring this new information? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
