About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Wendy, I am a big fan of using guest speakers. They help to reinforce the value of the content and help to motivate students because they are modeling what the students are striving to become. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, Yes, it will. It is a part of the learning process that helps to keep students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Francis, Right you are and well said. Everyone benefits from varied instructional delivery including us the instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
N. Dianne, Change of pace and instructional variety are two elements needed for learning success. Your comments reflect the importance of both if we are going to keep our students engaged for duration of our classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jaime, Good goal to have and you can achieve that goal by presenting your human side as an educator. Knowing they can talk with you means you have earned their respect and this is the foundation for the development of rapport. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, Good way to help the students to stay focused on the topic. Students appreciate the opportunity to smile and share a laugh now and then. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Martha, Ice breakers are great ways to get the students talking and interacting with each other as well as the instructor. This gives so time for everyone to get comfortable and settled into the course. Then it is a building process from there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, Your grandmother was right then and the message still holds true today so we need to be prepared to make a good first impression when we see our students for the first time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
N. Dianne, Good point. A smile sets the stage for what comes next and establishes the human factor in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, You make a good point about accountability for yourself as a professional and for your students. By staying current and your students knowing you are current you are demonstrating your desire to bring the latest content to your courses. This sends a very powerful message to your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
