About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Martha, This is how I use feedback from my students. It is a valuable way for me to improve my instructional efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, Learning is serious business but I like you think it also should be fun. So having some fun and sharing a laugh is a part of my instructional style. Keep of your good efforts as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Martha, Letting them know you have been where they are is important. This shows them that you do understand their struggles to be students and manage a life outside of school. This helps them respect you for the effort you are making to support their success in class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, This is a great way to create connections and establish an awareness of who is in the course. Having this advance helps with expectations the first class meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Your last sentence really puts it all together. This is the foundation upon which we build our instructional effort for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paula, You are right on with your ideas of how to create a positive first impression and then build from there. This foundation will be from which respect and rapport develop. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruth, Well said. A supportive and comfortable environment where students feel accepted is the foundation upon which the course will be built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Connie, I like using these types as openings as well. I think they help to get the students on the same page and ready for the upcoming class session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Phuong, This is a good use of graphic organizers because they help the students to see the parts as well as the whole of the concept that is being taught. Then they can walk through the learning steps just as you mention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
