About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Vivian, You touch upon a key point and that is speed. With access to vast data bases and information spending time in reflecting thinking is not the first thing that comes to mind with many students. Helping them to see the value of reflective thinking is a great service you are providing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vivian, This is such a great way to let them practice their problem solving skills in a low risk setting. The more confidence they develop the greater their skill level will be in real world settings. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Fedele, You have written a very well described format for being a critical thinker. These are the steps that should be followed to reach solution. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Venusa, I call this "connecting the dots" and it is so important to the learning process. The more relevancy and application that can be made the more value the students will associate with the course. This is the ROI they need to have as they move through their career preparation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristina, This is a key point. Knowing what they are expecting from the course helps to focus your instructional delivery. You can customize your content to help the current group of students to have their expectations met because you are keenly aware of what they are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erin, This can be a fun activity for you because you get to be creative in finding alternative ways to deliver your content. Even after teaching the same course for many years I try to incorporate a new activity or learning strategy into the course so that teaching the course remains fun for me and informative for my students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Venusa, You make a good point about the value of knowing that learners process information in different ways and if we offer instruction in different ways we will increase the retention rate of the material for our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, What are some ways that you do this? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, Listening is a very powerful learning tool for instructors. By listening you are showing students respect as well as learning how you can provide them support and encouragement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, How do you set this up so you can talk with each student and get his or her input? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
