About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Matthew, Thank you for the overview of how to prepare for and approach the classroom. You are following an excellent model and I know it will continue to provide great rewards in learning for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, These logistical things need to be shared the first day just as you are doing. This way there will be no misunderstanding about being on time, cell phone use, and absences. With these items out of the way you can focus on what the requirements are for the course and how the students can be successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
DAVID E, This is such a powerful. Students often ask "What do I have to do to pass this course?" I hate that question because it is not about what I require to pass but what skill sets and knowledge they get to advance their career development that matters. Your last sentence really captures what they need to internalize. It is their future at stake not what the professor requires. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
DAVID E, Good way to get a read on the class. This way you can customize your instruction and provide support as needed. The result will be a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
DAVID E, I support your professional approach. You conduct yourself as a professional while promoting excellence in the workplace. I see no problem with this at all. Keep up the good work because your students are going to benefit greatly from your influence and modeling. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, The more you know about them the easier it is to customize your style to match your current group of students. This will increase their engagement and focus while enhancing the value they associate with the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, The more you can set up your lab to match the labs they will be working in upon graduation the better. This will ease their transition from school to the real world plus they will see how well they were prepared to enter the work world. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marcie, You have a great way of planning for and entering the classroom. Your approach is professional and supportive to the needs of your students. I wish you continued teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, This is such a great way to capture their interest right up front. Letting them do things in the lab will help them see the value of the content you are going to be sharing later on in the lecture part of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Well developed definition. This should be the definition that all instructors follow as they prepare for and enter the classroom. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
