About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Sacha, Congratulations on a professional development plan that expands your skills as an instructor while helping you to define your instructional style. This is what professional development should be about and each of us should have a plan to follow. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gary, Good points that reflect the fact that you are the learning leader in the classroom. You are helping the students to engage in the class while helping the discussions to stay on topic and move forward with learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leeann, Good way to get everyone on the same page and understanding how the course is going to operate. They need to have a clear picture of what the expectations are for success in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pam, This is a good approach because this illustrates to your students that you have field experience that you are bringing to the classroom/lab. This enhances your professional credentials to the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, You make a number of very good points about how to find support, balance and engagement in a class setting. Thank you for these comments as they reflect how a class should be conducted to enhance learning for all. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carla, So true. Students like variety and change of pace and the more we can do either of them the greater their engagement is going to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Juliet, This is a valuable resource because as the students are developing their problem solving skills it is easy to leave something out. The checklist helps to keep them progressing toward the solution. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Connie, I agree. I use small groups a lot in my classes for the reasons you list. They help the students to learn to work with each other and use each others knowledge to reach a solution. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brant, Like this formula for working through problem solving. By writing down the steps and possible solutions the students can visually see how the problem solving process unfolds. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alex, I think this is the way to work with others to reach solutions to problems. This is what we do in the workplace so the more experience students have with this in the classroom the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
