About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Apryl, Like the way you walk the students through the process of determining the status of a patient and how to work with that patient. This is real world application that each student needs before graduation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rosa, Good way to lay out how critical thinkers need to approach a problem and then work through to solution. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alexandra, Like your definition of critical thinkers. These five elements are essential for a person to be able to recognize and then work through the steps to solve problems. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amber, This is an important part of the instructional planning process. Building the "why" into the lessons reinforces the value of the content being presented and increases the ROI for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sherry, Relevancy and application are two important parts of the teaching/learning process. So the more we can do both the more valuable the course content becomes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, You make a number of very good points. I agree with you about the lack of foundational academic skills in our incoming students. They are for the most part reading around the 4th to 6th grade level. This makes it tough when you are trying to teach them post secondary material. With different learning strategies and a lot of support it is great to see them progress and move closer to their career goals. Keep up the good work, you are impacting a lot of lives and helping the next generation to be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sherry, Glad the information was of help to you and that you are able to use the content to develop your lessons to be more targeted on the learning needs of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anne, Good strategy to follow. Activities like these gets the students involved and focused on the content. Games let them laugh, have fun while increasing their application of the content that has been shared. A win win situation for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Don, I use graduates a lot in my classes as well. They really help to increase the motivation of students and get them engaged at a higher level in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Monica, So true and this goes a long way in the classroom. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
