About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Sara, I think you are right on target with this approach. As a result of this effort you will have clear and concise content to present in the limited time you have while maximizing the students investment of their time and interest. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ali, This is a fast developing source of professional development. Thank you for sharing this resource with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sara, You have a great professional development plan operating. Keep up the good work. Even though you are a department of one you are reaching out to other professionals to expand your expertise in instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Apryl, This is a very good idea to follow. I use a lot of case studies in my classes for this reason. I want them to see many different situations and work at coming up with different solutions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marcia, Like the steps you take your students through to reach solutions. These steps give them strategies to follow that will serve them well when they are out in the work world. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rosa, I am a big fan of student groups for the reason you list. Their working together helps them to get other ideas, communicate their own and then collectively come up with solutions. This is what they will encounter in the work place so the more prepared they are the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alexandra, This is a great learning strategy. Journaling enables students to refine their communication skills by getting them to write down what they have worked through and ideas they have. I think this is a learning tool that needs to be widely shared with other instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marcia, The key is to be creative in selecting activities that will enable your students to acquire the needed skills for problem solving. I am constantly looking for strategies I can use to help my students to become problem solvers. I use a lot of case studies so my students can do reflective thinking and knowledge sharing to come up with solutions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rosa, It sure does. Students need to be self disciplined if they are going to be successful in their field and create a future for themselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Luke, This is a very comprehensive and supportive way to develop critical thinking skills. The more students can gain experience in the different areas you list the more comfortable they will be when they are out in the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
