About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Minnie, It is the document that guides and informs throughout the course so it needs to be clear and concise to enhance understanding of the course requirements. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terrance, Well said and right on target. This is how we should approach our instructional planning and delivery and the result will be as you say a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Minnie, This is a great support for you as you work through the material and acquire the necessary content. As a result you know how much your own students appreciate this type of support. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terrance, This phrase is dead on when it comes to being the learning leader for the class. We instructor are going to be models for our students as a result of our position so we need to "walk the talk" in all areas of our interaction with students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dana, The more examples you can share the more value the students will associate with the content of the course. They start to see both the relevancy and application of the material in a way that makes sense and is understandable. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, This is the core of what you are trying to do with your students. You are showing them the value of what you are teaching through application. This increases the ROI of the content for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amy, Humor is a powerful teaching tool and can be used in so many different ways. So by sharing a funny story to reinforce a point that has been made you are entertaining the students for a brief while as they reset their brains and reflect on what has just been covered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dana, This is a good approach as it requires the students to do some thinking and support their position with facts. This work will help in building their confidence in what they are learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Michael, This is a great feedback tool for both you and your students. They get to recall what they have learned so they review in their minds what has been covered to find that one thing while you are learning what they did or did not learn so you can plan your instructional strategies for the next week. This is a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, This is such a great feeling for a student to have. Respect and rapport are two elements needed for learning success and we need to do all we can to develop both. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
