About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jamie, That is a big hole to dig out of when you have started the class off in a negative way. You make a good point about a positive first impression being necessary. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Damona, I use case studies and role playing in my classes for the reasons you list. They are great ways to show students both relevance and application. Thanks for sharing how role playing really helped your students to become involved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Maria, Like your saying and it is such an important part of the total career development needed by students. The more you can simulate the workplace the easier the transition will be for the students upon program completion. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nisa, A positive first impression sets the tone for the upcoming class sessions and well as the start of rapport development. Building on this foundation creates an environment of trust and comfort for students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, Students like to hear examples of relevancy and application of the content. By sharing these examples you increase the value of the the course to the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jamie, Right you are and this is why we need to look at the learning environment through the eyes of our students. This way we can make the setting as supportive as possible. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jamie, The more senses and applications made with the content the better. By doing so you will increase their retention of the content as well as expand their skill sets. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Acie, Great way to stay engaged with your students and the course content. The saying "To teach is to learn twice, once as a student and again as the teacher." applies in this situation. Also, your effort to learn from your students helps in establishing rapport with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, Good attack strategy. This approach helps the students to be able to seek a solution to the problem that is workable and attainable within the environment in which the problem exists. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, Well developed definition of intelligence. Like the way you put the different elements together into a package that has balance between the different intelligences and abilities. This is what we should be striving to do with our students as they progress through their educational sequence. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
