About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ernest, Right you are about the value of emotional intelligence and the role it plays in career success. Our students need to see how they can develop their emotional intelligence and make it a part of their career skill set. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ernest, You are doing a great service for your students when you slow them down. It is easy for students to speed through problem solving steps and not analyze each step nor see the value of the information learned from that step. By being slow and thinking in-depth the students will have a greater understanding of the critical thinking process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eva, Yes they do. If they can then they are going to be valued problem solvers in their career areas. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kim, I think being creative as an instructor also helps the students to realize that they can be creative in their learning as well. This way they can see the content in different ways and make applications of it in multiple settings. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, You make a good point about the need for students to adjust their learning preferences to the point that they can learn the content in other ways. This is as you mention real life and how the work world operates. The reason for the discussion in relation to learning preferences is that in getting students started in their college careers it is good if they can have early success in their preference areas and build some confidence. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jamie, This is a good way to get everyone involved in the learning process. Spreading the opportunity among students helps them to get to share what they have learned as well as keeps them focused on what is being discussed in class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
