About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Anwar, The lack of personal discipline is something I see a lot with our current students. They only want to memorize and then write answers down on the test. They don't want to work at gaining the knowledge and skills to complete problem solving tasks. This is something I work on a lot with my students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Susana, Yes a critical thinker does need these skills. If the thinker is not able to follow the sequence you have laid out it is going to be very difficult for that person to meet the demands of problem solving in his or her workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anwar, This is a very well developed definition and explanation of how critical thinkers develop into problem solvers. Thanks you for sharing this with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angie, Thank you for sharing these examples about the value of graphic organizers to students. They really help students to see how they can organize and sequence their learning in a way that will enable them to move through the course in a timely manner. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, Right you are about learning so much about your student through observations. These observations help with the instructional planning process because you quickly see what works for their learning preferences. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, Good way to connect application to content. The more connections of this type students can make the more value they associate with the content and why it is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tamika, I think this is a great way to continue the personal and professional building process for students throughout the course. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, You have a supportive and comfortable way of starting a new class and your integration of all students in the review process is a good one. Your students are able to contribute to the class discussions in a way that enables them to contribute without feeling like they are in the spotlight. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tamika, I use a lot of case studies for this purpose. The more applications the students can make during the course the better. You are doing such with your approach and thus increasing the ROI for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, This is a great way to get to know your students better and understand what they are facing outside of the classroom. The students need to understand how they can use their support system if they have one or how to create one if they don't have one available. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
