About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Motivating Learners

Jill, I think you are on the right track with your approach because you are showing them multiple examples of how to develop and use their communication skills. In the past I have even used role playing in class do illustrate how skill in research writing can be of benefit to the career development of dental assistants. We have had some fun with researching and taking technical terms and explaining them in alternative ways to other students that play the role of patients. Expanding Your Instructional Abilities

Dave, Have a back up activity of some type to use when you need to catch your thoughts. I have a number of case studies that I bring to class and can hand out when I need to get my students to thinking and problem solving. The case studies can range from easy to more difficult this way you will have them available no matter where you are in the course-beginning, middle or end. Supporting Problem Solving Skills

Russell, I use a lot of case studies in my classes to get my students involved in the asking of questions and proposing of solutions.
