While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Denise, Good to have these opportunities and take advantage of them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lavetta, You are on the right track in trying to get students to see their education in relation to work. In fact being in school is a job for which they are paying a lot of money so they should see it as their responsibility to be there on time and prepared. Unfortunately many students to not see themselves in this light and revert back to high school behavior. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jay, Good way to show students how much they are valued. Knowing their names and talking about their future gets them excited about what they are studying and why they are in school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, Thank you for these comments on how to progress toward critical as well as reflective thinking. The sorting out of content, resources, rumors and biases is a challenge but is necessary if a person is going to arrive at a solution that is viable to all those involved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, Thank you for these comments in relation to using different types of motivation techniques with students. The higher the level of motivation the greater the engagement will be by the students. This creates a win win situation for both the instructor and them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, This is such a great way for you to send a message that you value your students and their opinions. They can see through your methods that you are willing to listen to them and then act on their input. This increases the value of the course so much while increasing the engagement of students in the process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, The human factor is critical to success for everyone. Students need it and instructors should practice it. The more students learn about how to interact with others the more successful they are going to be in the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, Like the way you plan and conduct your classes. These strategies engage all of the students in a way that lets them see that they are valued and you are there to provide support to them as needed but they in return are going to have to put forth effort if they are going to be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, Good analysis of the value associated with a positive first class. This first class is what creates a foundation of inquiry and interest for the students so it need to be well planned and implemented. It can be fun but also should let the students see what they are going to be learning in the weeks ahead. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Harvey, Good strategy to follow as you conduct Q&A sessions with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
