About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Elliot, I think staying current in the field that you teach is important as well as the instructional improvement growth needed. So taking a course in your field where you will see and learn about how the field is changing is critical for instructors. I don't know about a bartending class if you teach a wine course but I would think having the chance to go to winery and "shadow" workers as they gather the grapes, process them and then mix the various juices to create blends and flavors would be extremely valuable in teaching a wine course. Ronald, The key is growth as you mention. We instructors need to continue to explore how we can improve our instructional impact on students. This should be an ongoing goal for ourselves throughout our career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tracey, Great to hear! I wish you success in this your new career. Have fun and enjoy the opportunities to help students to create a future for themselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Suzelle, Great to hear about your use of the material we are sharing with you. I wish you continued teaching success. The more you know about your students the more accurately you can target your instruction to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chris, This experience is extremely valuable to students as they get to benefit from your expertise while see how the content of the course has direct application to the their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rhonda, I use it a lot in my classes and I agree it is a great way to get students engaged and excited about the class content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ronald, Passion for one's content and enthusiasm for teaching are two elements needed for teaching success. So we need to make both a part of our instructional planning effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Great definition. You hit on all the key points and I really like your last one about being prepared. Being prepared as we all know does not happen by thinking about it. It happens as a result of self discipline and effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mossetta, Good definition and one I know will be of help to other instructors that are striving to have the teaching success you are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. Kipp, I use this method a lot in my classes as well. The more connection we can make between their life experiences and the course content the more they will value the information being shared. They will see both relevance and application in what is being taught and this is what we are trying to do with all of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
