About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kevin, This is such a good point as it connects the students with their future. Why they are there and how high is their commitment to their future is important information to know. Knowing this gives a foundation upon which to build rapport with that student. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Casey, This is important information to have because it can shape how you approach a student. Also, it helps you with knowing what kind of support to provide should it be needed at some time in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Arlene, For sure. Acceptance puts them at ease and helps them get settled into the course and ready for the upcoming learning that is going to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kevin, So true. Feeling accepted enables a student to get settled into the course and focus on what the requirements are for success. If they don't have such a feeling they never really get on track and as a result the course really never becomes a part of their educational process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dawn, I like this approach. You are increasing the value of the course through this time of interaction. They get to make application of what they are being taught as well as get to know their classmates better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kevin, Good strategies. I try to remember that adults are just taller children in many ways. My students like to play games and share laughs. These activities help to keep the students engaged and moving forward in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tracey, This is very important to do. What are some of the most effective forms of feedback from your perspective? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, Knowing they have the support of their instructor is a good way to increase their confidence. We can provide a variety of different supports to help our students be successful if they are willing to put forth the needed effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sandy, This is such an important part of teaching. The human factor needs to be present in all that we do and say with students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Levon, Good plan and one that keeps the students focused. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
